Yesterday Dolby Laboratories, Inc unveiled a new technology – Dolby Vision – that will help content creators and television manufactures display “truer-to-life brightness, colours and contrasts”. Although existing camera technology usually captures the original brightness and colour of real-life vision, much of this lost by the time it gets to our screens due to current TV colour-grading being based on older technology. Whilst Dolby state there is still a lot of work to be done and it is unclear how soon this will be affecting 12 volt TVs, caravan TVs, canal boat or motorhome TVs, Roland Vlaicu, Senior Director of Broadcast Imaging at Dolby stated this would provide a “dramatically improved video experience, regardless of screen size or viewing distance”.
